We don’t always recommend the removal of existing insulation, but there are situations when this should be considered:
Vermin love to nest in attics and often leave behind harmful bacteria from fecal matter that can possibly become airborne spores contaminating a homes air supply. Removing affected insulation, cleansing with a commercial germicide, and closing off openings to prevent further infestation may be needed to ensure a healthy attic space.
According to the Department of Energy, up to 35% of our energy is lost through the sidewalls of our homes due to a lack of, or ineffective insulation. Drafty or poorly insulated walls are also responsible for increased levels of pollen, allergens, dust infiltration, and mold growth within walls. Insulating exterior walls can stop drafts and air infiltration, increase home comfort, energy efficiency while decreasing outside noise pollution.
Blown in cellulose is an environmentally friendly, cost effective insulation. Cellulose insulation is made from recycled newspaper and treated with borates (salt mineral mined from the earth) for an effective pest control, and this mineral provides the insulation with a Class 1 fire rating that shown in laboratory testing to be 57% more effective at suppressing fire spread over fiberglass.
The even distribution of blown in cellulose insulation makes for a high performance insulation that has come into increasing favor among green builders and building energy efficiency experts.
Blown in fiberglass or Rockwool insulation have a specific usefulness in certain applications, but these are not considered to be the most efficient insulation materials due to their inability to prevent air movement.
It was a great blessing when I got weathermasters to insulate and seal up my home. My home was one of the most complicated homes there is to insulate and seal up but they came in, they new what to do and got the job done right. Plus they installed a brand new furnace and ran all the duct work got the air and the returns operating right and cut my heating bill down. Now my home is more valuable and more comfortable. Thanks weathermasters
